The Web Forms data-binding architecture allows you to bind control properties to a data source, making it easy to display data on the page. When the user selects one — that is, when the control's Selected Index Changed event is raised — you want to display the corresponding record.

However, the data-binding architecture does not support updates — that is, data binding is one-way in Web Forms pages. When you created the drop-down list, you set its Auto Post Back property to true.

im having issues updating my database from a webform.

I use a series of textboxes and dropdownlists which are populated by the datasource but for some reason i cant update them.

Basically the primary key of a row is passed into the next page where the textboxes, drop down lists are populated with the data from that row.

Here is what i have tried so far //Update the record with new information entered into controls protected void Update But_Click(object sender, Event Args e) { using (Sql Connection conn = new Sql Connection("Data Source=stephenp\sqlexpress; Initial Catalog=Asset management System DB; Integrated Security=True")) { string sql = "UPDATE Peripherals SET Peripheral [email protected] Type, [email protected], Peripheral Serial [email protected] Num, " + "Company = @Company, [email protected], [email protected], Warranty Expiration [email protected], Peripheral Capex [email protected] Num, " + "[email protected], Last Modified Date = @Last MD, Last Modified [email protected] MB WHERE (Peripheral Tag Number = @Peripheral Tag Number)"; //try //{ using (Sql Command cmd = new Sql Command(sql, conn)) { cmd.

Because a majority of Web applications involve reading data and not updating it, one-way data binding keeps the size and complexity of the page architecture to a minimum for the most common scenarios. The result is that the page is posted to the server as soon as the user makes a selection.
